  1. Peel and cut the onions in half and with a knife or mandoline slider, thinly slice the onion halves, giving you thin C-shaped slices.

QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE:

Do I have to use red onions?

For the best results, I highly recommend that you use red onions. You can use sweet onions instead if that’s all you have on hand.

How do I get such thin sliced onions?

I love using a mandoline slicer to achieve thin, uniform slices.

What is the difference between pickled and marinated onions?

Although they are practically the same thing, marinated onions are typically tossed with oil and vinegar and served immediately instead of giving the onions time to pickle.

For the best results you want to use red wine vinegar, but classic white vinegar will work if that’s all you have on hand.

If stored in the fridge in a jar or container, these pickled onions will keep for up to 2-3 weeks!

Can I make these pickled onions spicy?

Yes! If you want a little kick to your onions, add some red pepper flakes or sliced jalapenos to them!
