WHAT YOU NEED-

  • Shrimp– This recipe calls for raw, deveined shrimp! Either fresh or frozen raw shrimp can be used, just be sure to thaw the shrimp if using frozen. For the best shrimp skewers, you want to use either medium, large or jumbo shrimp so they can fit on the skewers properly.
  • Oil– Tossing the shrimp in oil gives the shrimp a nice crisp when grilling. You can use olive oil, vegetable oil, canola oil, or any other go to oil!
  • Flavor– To season the shrimp, this recipe just uses salt, pepper and garlic. Since the main flavors come from the sauce, you don’t want to overdo it on the seasonings.
  • Bang Bang Sauce– Once the shrimp is grilled, it is then smothered in a bold, sweet and spicy homemade bang bang sauce!

HOW TO GRILL SHRIMP SKEWERS

Shrimp skewers are so easy to make, they come together in under 15 minutes!

  1. Soak the wooden skewers in cold water, as you prepare the shrimp. (This helps the skewers from catching fire when grilling.)
  2. In a bowl, prepare the bang bang sauce.
  3. Peel and devein the shrimp prawns, leaving the tail on if desired.
  4. Add the shrimp, oil, and seasonings to a bowl and mix until well combined.
  5. Thread the shrimp onto the skewers, adding about 5 shrimp on each skewer. (You do not want to overcrowd the shrimp.)
  6. Preheat the heat and clean the grill grates.
  7. Once the grill is hot, add the shrimp skewers to the grill and grill for just a couple minutes on each side, flipping halfway through. Until the shrimp is pink and no longer translucent but opaque.
  8. Brush the shrimp skewers with bang bang shrimp, coating all the shrimp in the sauce. Remove from the grill and right before serving, brush again with more sauce.
  9. Top with freshly chopped green onions or cilantro and serve with desired sides.

OTHER COOKING METHODS-

Don’t have a grill? No problem! You can totally just cook these shrimp skewers on the stove-top or air fryer.

  • Stove Top– Heat a grill pan on medium high heat. Once hot, add the shrimp skewers and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until pink and slightly charred.
  • Air Fryer– Add the shrimp skewers to the air fryer and cook at 400F for 6-8 minutes, flipping halfway through the cook time. (Be sure to use skewers that will fit into your air fryer.)

QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE:

Do I have to add shrimp on skewers?

When grilling shrimp, adding them to skewers makes it easier to grill! But you can totally just grill them without skewers.

Do I remove the tails or leave them on?

I like to leave the tails on for a prettier presentation, but you can remove the tails before grilling the shrimp skewers!

What is bang bang sauce?

The star of this recipe is the bang bang sauce, which is a creamy sauce that is both sweet and spicy! This is a copycat Bonefish grill recipe.

Do I have to coat the shrimp in the sauce?

No! If you want to have plain shrimp skewers, skip the bang bang sauce step! You can top the skewers with herb butter or lemon juice and serve them like that!

How do I store leftover skewers?

You can store the grilled shrimp on or off the skewers. Once cooled, store the skewers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days. Enjoy them cold or warm in the air fryer or microwave.
