HOW TO MAKE CHOCOLATE COVERED POPCORN
With just 2 simple ingredients and 5 minutes you can have this sweet and salty snack ready in no time!
- Using the preferred method, pop the popcorn.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and then add the popped popcorn to the sheet, spreading evenly.
- Melt the chocolate with the desired method.
- Once the chocolate is melted and smooth, using a spoon, fork, or piping bag, drizzle the chocolate over the popcorn. Adding the desired amount of chocolate you prefer.
- Top with your favorite toppings or flakey sea salt before the chocolate hardens.
- Allow the chocolate to cool and harden. For a quicker cool time, transfer to the fridge.
- Once the chocolate is hard, serve or transfer the popcorn to an airtight container.
MELTING CHOCOLATE– There are a few methods for melting chocolate, but it’s important to use low heat and be patient to avoid burning it. Here are two of my favorite techniques:
- Stovetop: Fill a saucepan with about an inch of water and bring it to a gentle simmer. Place a heat-safe bowl on top, making sure it doesn’t touch the water. Add the chocolate to the bowl and let the steam melt it, stirring until smooth.
- Microwave: Place the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat at 15-second intervals on a lower power setting, stirring between each interval. Continue until fully melted, but be careful not to overheat, as it can burn and seize up.
VARIATIONS
- White Chocolate Peppermint– Drizzle the popcorn in white chocolate and top with crushed peppermint for the perfect holiday treat!
- Chocolate Swirl– Use both chocolate and white chocolate drizzle for the popcorn for a mixture of tastes!
- S’mores Popcorn– After drizzling the popcorn in chocolate top with crushed graham crackers and marshmallows, for a s’more themed snack.
- Caramel Chocolate Popcorn– Drizzle the popcorn in chocolate and caramel, so rich and packed with flavors.
- Birthday Cake Popcorn– For a fun birthday cake themed snack, drizzle the popcorn in white chocolate and top with sprinkles!
TOPPINGS-
Be sure to add your toppings right after you drizzle the popcorn to ensure the toppings stick!
- Chopped nuts
- Shredded coconut
- Sprinkles
- Crushed peppermint
- Flakey salt
- Crushed Oreo
- M&Ms
| You can even use colorful chocolate melts to make the chocolate drizzle colorful! |
QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE:
No worries! Add the chocolate to a plastic bag and snip a corner of the bag to make a hole where the chocolate will come out of, giving you a makeshift piping bag.
Be sure to store the popcorn in an airtight container or bag to avoid the popcorn from getting stale.
Yes! You can make this and if stored properly, this popcorn will last for up to a week!
You burnt your chocolate, also known as seized chocolate. Seized chocolate is when after melting chocolate instead of turning creamy and smooth comes out grainy and thick.
