WHAT YOU NEED-

  • Lemons– Fresh lemons are the main ingredient for homemade lemonade! The number of lemons will depend on the size of the lemons; I typically use around d 9-10 medium lemons.
  • Sweetener– To sweeten the lemonade you can use your favorite sweetener. Granulated sugar, brown sugar, cane sugar, honey, agave syrup, stevia or even date syrup works great.
  • Water– You want to make sure you are using drinking water!
  • Blueberries– You can use either frozen or fresh blueberries for this recipe! You can also use a mix of fresh and frozen blueberries.
  • Sugar– To sweeten the homemade blueberry syrup, this recipe uses classic granulated sugar. You can swap the sugar for your go-to sweetener. You can also adjust the level of sweetness to the syrup; keep in mind the lemonade is also sweet.
  • Mint– Adding fresh mint to the blueberries totally elevates this drink! You can opt out of adding mint.

HOW TO MAKE BLUEBERRY SYRUP

The main ingredient in this lemonade is the homemade blueberry simple syrup! Fresh blueberries with a hint of mint cooked in sugar until thick and flavorful. Don’t limit this blueberry syrup to just lemonade, try it in matcha too!

  1. In a saucepan, mix blueberries, mint leaves, sugar, and a splash of lemon juice.
  2. On medium heat bring the mixture to a simmer, then cook for 10 minutes. Stir occasionally.
  3. After 10 minutes, when the mixture has turned into a chunky sauce, remove from heat and allow it to cool.
  4. Once cooled, add a strainer over a bowl or large measuring cup, and strain the blueberry sauce to remove the chunky blueberries. Mash the berries to get as much syrup from the berries. This will leave you with a smooth homemade blueberry sauce.
  5. Add syrup to a container and discard the berries. You can keep the berries and add them along with the syrup if you like fruit in your lemonade!
  6. Store the blueberry syrup in the fridge until ready to use.
Be sure that the blueberry sauce is cool, before adding it to the lemonade. I like to make blueberry sauce a couple days in advance.

HOW TO MAKE LEMONADE WITH BLUEBERRY SAUCE

Have this simple homemade lemonade ready in no time!

  1. In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and the sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved. Remove from heat and let the syrup cool.
  2. Slice the lemons in half and extract the juice using a juicer or hand squeezer, discarding any seeds.
  3. In a large pitcher, mix the remaining water, the cooled simple syrup, and the freshly squeezed lemon juice. Stir well to combine. Adjust the flavor by adding more sugar or lemon juice to taste.
  4. Pour in the blueberry syrup and stir until it is fully blended.
  5. Add ice cubes, fresh mint leaves, and extra slices of lemon to the pitcher. Stir gently and serve.
Fast Lemonade Option– You can also just use store-bought lemonade, or the Country Time lemonade mix instead of making freshly squeezed lemonade for this recipe.

LEMONADE VARIATIONS-

You don’t have to stop at blueberry lemonade—there are so many delicious variations to try! Here are some of our favorite ideas:

  • Sparkling – Elevate this drink by making this a sparkling lemonade! Add lemon, lime, or any flavored sparkling water, tonic water, or even Sprite right before serving.
  • Multi-Berry – Instead of a blueberry sauce, make a multi-berry sauce using mixed frozen berries—so delicious!
  • Limeade– Use limes instead of lemons for a blueberry limeade recipe! You can also make a mix of both lemon and lime for a delicious lemon-lime combo.
  • Spiked– Add your favorite alcohol to this lemonade for a delicious, spiked lemonade.
  • Blueberry Peach– Use half frozen blueberries and half frozen peaches in the syrup recipe for a fruity twist.
  • Arnold Palmer– Add some sweet or unsweetened tea to the lemonade for an Arnold palmer vibe.

QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE:

Do I use fresh or frozen blueberries?

You can use either fresh or frozen! I love to use frozen blueberries.

Can I just use the store-bought lemon concentrate instead of squeezing lemons?

For the best results, you want to use freshly squeezed lemon juice. You can also do a mix of freshly squeezed lemons and store-bought concentrate.

What is the best way to juice lemons?

The best way to juice your lemons is by rolling the lemons on a hard surface to break down the pulp inside of the lemon, then juice with a hand squeezer or juicer.

Can I leave out the mint?

Yes! If you don’t like the added mint, you can leave out the mint.

How sweet is this blueberry lemonade recipe?

The sweetness is completely up to you—adjust the sugar to suit your taste. I prefer my lemonade to be a bit more tart, so I usually go easy on the sugar.

Can I double this recipe?

Absolutely! Feel free to double or even triple the recipe if needed. I like to make a big batch when I’m hosting. Just be prepared with plenty of lemons—or you can use a lemonade mix instead of fresh lemon and sugar.

Can I just use lemonade mix?

Yes, this is my go-to method when making a larger batch! I just make my lemonade by adding country time lemonade mix to water and then mix in the blueberry syrup.
