This easy blackened tilapia recipe comes together in under 15 minutes and a great dinner. Tilapia fillets seasoned in a homemade spice blend and sauteed until golden and crispy.

Have dinner on the table in under 30 minutes with this crispy and flakey tilapia fish. Not only is it easy to make but it is healthy and so good! The homemade spice blend brings out the flavors of the fish, giving it the ultimate taste.

WHAT YOU NEED-
With just a few classic ingredients, you can have this dinner recipe ready in no time.
- Fish– For the best results you want to use fresh tilapia fillets, but you can also use frozen fillets. You can also substitute for cod fish, halibut, or flounder.
- Oil– To sauté the fish, you can use your favorite cooking oil like canola oil, olive oil, etc.
- Butter– We love to add the butter at the end of cooking to make the fillets crispy and juicy! For a healthier dish you can opt out of the butter.
- Flavors– For the blackening spice blend we use salt, pepper, garlic, paprika, chili, Italian seasoning, and breadcrumbs. The breadcrumbs add a hint of crunch to the outside of the fillets. You can use either plain or seasoned breadcrumbs.
HOW TO MAKE BLACKENED TILAPIA
In under 15 minutes you can have this effortless dinner on the table!
- Combine all the seasoning into a bowl.
- Rinse and dry the fish fillets. Season the fillets on all sides, fully coating all the fish.
- Heat skillet with oil, once hot add the fillet to the skillet and cook, flipping halfway.
- Serve with desired sides.
AIR FRYER METHOD
This tilapia fish is not only good using the stove-top method, but you can totally make it in the air fryer!
- Preheat the air fryer and spray the basket with baking spray.
- Add the seasoned tilapia fillets into the basket and cook.
- Flip halfway through the cooking time, cook until golden crispy.

Easy Blackened Tilapia Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 tilapia fish fillets
- 2 tsp oil for cooking
- 1 Tbsp butter
Spice Blend
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp ground black pepper
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp paprika
- ¼ tsp chili powder
- ½ tsp italian seasoning
- ½ Tbsp breadcrumbs seasoned or plain
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combined the salt, pepper, paprika, garlic, chili, Italian seasoning and bread crumbs.
- Rinse and pat dry the tilapia filets and place onto a plate. Season both sides with the spice blend, making sure all parts of the fish is coated in seasoning.
- Heat a large skillet on medium high heat with 2 tsp oil. Once the pan is hot, add the fillets and cook for 3-4 minutes.
- Flip the fillets and add in the butter and cook for another 3-4 minutes or until the fillets are crispy and cooked through.
- Serve with desired sides and enjoy immediately.
Air Fryer Method-
- Preheat the air fryer to 400℉ and spray the basket with baking spray.
- Add the seasoned tilapia fillets into the basket and cook for 8-10 minutes. Flip halfway through the cooking time, cook until golden crispy.
