SKILLET LASAGNA

This simple lazy lasagna recipe is the ultimate quick and easy version of the classic layered pasta dish. Lasagna pasta cooked in a hearty meat sauce, loaded with melty cheese and dollops of creamy ricotta cheese. Skip all the layering but keep all the lasagna flavors with this simple one skillet lasagna pasta recipe.

WHAT YOU NEED-

  • Ground Beef– Just like classic lasagna, this recipe calls for ground beef. You want to stick to a ground beef that is around 85-90% lean. You can also substitute for ground sausage, pork, chicken or turkey.
  • Onions– You can use either red onion, cooking onion, yellow onion or even shallots, just be sure to finely chop the onions.
  • Garlic– For extra flavors, you can’t forget to add freshly minced garlic. You can use either fresh or canned jarred garlic.
  • Seasonings– To season the ground beef, this recipe calls for salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika and Italian seasonings. You can season the pasta meat sauce with any other seasonings that you prefer.
  • Marina Sauce– Use any of your favorite marinara or tomato sauce for this dish. I love using Prego marinara sauce.
  • Broth– You can use either chicken, beef or vegetable broth for this recipe. I don’t ever have broth, so I make my own broth with water and bouillon powder. You can also use water for milder flavors.
  • Lasagna Pasta– To keep it as close to classic lasagna, i used lasagna pasta broken in halves. You can also swap for another pasta that is similar to lasagna, just as Mafaldine pasta, campanelle pasta, or mafalda corta pasta.
  • Cheese– This cheesy skillet lasagna calls for shredded mozzarella cheese and parmesan cheese. You can use your favorite shredded cheese.
  • Ricotta Cheese– Although adding the dollops of ricotta cheese is totally optional, it also adds so much extra richness and flavors.
  • Greens– Adding freshly chopped herbs is totally optional but adds extra delicious flavors. I love using either cilantro or parsley.

HOW TO MAKE SKILLET LASAGNA

Make this effortless skillet lasagna recipe for the perfect weeknight dinner.

  1. Sauté the ground beef, onions and garlic in a large, deep skillet until meat is browned. (Drain an excess grease and continue to break apart the meat as it cooks.)
  2. Season the ground beef and toss until coated.
  3. Pour in the marinara sauce and broth and bring the mixture to a boil.
  4. Add the uncooked lasagna noodles to the skillet, arranging them throughout the meat sauce. (Try to keep the noodles mostly submerged so they cook evenly.)
  5. Continue cooking the pasta until the noodles are tender. Stir gently halfway through cooking to prevent the pasta from sticking to the bottom of the skillet. (If the sauce becomes too thick before the noodles are done, add a splash of broth.)
  6. Once the pasta is tender, remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in half of the shredded cheese until melted and combined.
  7. Spoon dollops of ricotta cheese evenly over the top, then sprinkle with the remaining shredded cheese. Cover the skillet with a lid for a few minutes, allowing the residual heat to melt the cheese.
  8. Sprinkle with freshly chopped herbs, such as parsley or basil, and serve warm!
