BLACKENED SEASONING

Are you looking for a way to spice your meals up a notch? Make this simple homemade blackening seasoning blend to have on hand for your cooking. This blend is packed with a robust array of flavors and has a slight kick, the perfect seasoning mix. Easy to make, this seasoning blend is going to become a seasoning staple that you will always have on deck.

WHAT IS BLACKENING SEASONING

Blackening seasoning is a flavorful mix of spices that creates a slightly blackened crust on your meat when grilling or pan-searing it. This is a classic technique to use on poultry and seafood, but it also works greatly on steak, pork, veggies, and even pasta!

Cajun Seasoning vs Blackened Seasoning– You may think that these two classic spice blends are the same, but although similar, they are not the same! The difference between these seasonings is the spice level! Cajun seasoning is a bit spicier.

WHAT YOU NEED-

With just a couple of basic ingredients, you can have this flavorful, homemade blackened seasoning blend ready to use!

  • Salt– You can use your favorite salt for this blend: table salt, Himalayan salt, or even pink salad! Adjust the amount of salt you want to add based on preference.
  • Pepper– Ground black pepper is another classic seasoning that goes in this spice blend. Brings the rich piney flavors to this mix!
  • Garlic– Garlic powder or dried minced garlic can be used for this blend. You can never go wrong with adding garlic to any dish!
  • Paprika– Smoked paprika, Hungarian paprika, or regular paprika works great. Whichever you prefer or have on hand will work in this homemade seasoning mixture.
  • Italian– I love to use Italian seasoning because it already has all the good herbs in one blend! You can also just create your own Italian seasoning by combining oregano, rosemary, and thyme.
  • Chili powder– Adding chili powder gives the blend a slight kick but doesn’t make it as spicy as Cajun seasoning.

HOW TO MAKE BLACKENED SEASONING

Make a double or triple batch to have this homemade blackening seasoning on hand to use all the time!

  1. Add all the seasonings into a bowl and mix until well combined.
  2. Transfer to a spice jar, container, or plastic bag and use with desired dishes.
Storing– If stored properly, in a spice jar, mason jar, container or plastic bag, this seasoning can last up to 3-4 months!
