DUBAI CHOCOLATE STRAWBERRIES

The Dubai chocolate strawberry cup dessert took the interest by storm, and for good reason! This simple no bake dessert is so easy to make, just a few ingredients, and provides a rich, high level dessert. Smooth and velvety melted milk chocolate, crunchy pistachio filling combined with fresh strawberries! Every bite delivers the perfect balance or creamy, sweet, nutty and fruity, the ultimate no bake dessert!

WHAT YOU NEED-

  • Chocolate– You want to use your favorite milk, dark or semi-sweet chocolate. You can use a chocolate bar, melting chips, chunks or chocolate chips, whichever melts the best.
  • Butter– Crisping the Kataifi with some butter helps give you the ultimate crunch. Use either salted or unsalted butter.
  • Kataifi– This is a popular Middle Eastern dessert ingredient, which is just shredded pastry dough. You can buy it already chopped or buy whole and chop yourself. You can buy this in some grocery stores, but I buy it from Amazon. I use the Alkis brand, it’s a larger bag and already comes chopped.
  • Pistachio Butter– What makes Dubai chocolate viral is the creamy pistachio filling, which is what this recipe calls for! You can use either creamy or crunchy pistachio butter or cream, it is basically the same thing. This pistachio cream can be found in some stores, but I bought mine on Amazon.
  • Strawberries– The main ingredient in this beautiful Dubai chocolate dessert is fresh strawberries! You can either half, quarter or slice your strawberries, whichever you prefer. You can also swap for raspberries, or use a combination of both!

HOW TO MAKE THE DUBAI CHOCOLATE STRAWBERRY CUP

With just a few steps, you can enjoy these delicious Dubai chocolate strawberry cups! Whether you want to just make a couple for a snack or want to serve them at your next gathering, it’s so easy!

  1. In a large skillet, melt butter on medium heat. Once the butter is melted, add in the chopped kataifi to the skillet.
  2. As it toasts, continue to mix until all the kataifi is a light golden brown. (You want to continuously mix so that all the chopped pastry gets golden and nothing burns.)
  3. Remove the skillet from heat and pour in the pistachio cream and a tahini and stir until well combined. Set aside until ready to assemble. (If you want it to be creamier, you can add more pistachio cream.)
  4. Rinse and completely dry the strawberries, then quarter or slice all the strawberries.
  5. Melt the chocolate using your desired method. (Be sure that you melt the chocolate as the final step before assembling.)
  6. Lay out the four cups and then evenly divide the strawberries into 4 cups. (You will have two layers of strawberries, so use only half the strawberries for the first layer.)
  7. Top the strawberries with chocolate. You can either scoop or pipe the chocolate over the strawberries. Then top with some crunchy pistachio cream.
  8. Repeat this to have two layers in each cup. Top with crushed pistachios, a strawberry slice or chocolate drizzle. (This recipe yields about 4-5 cups, depending on how much you prefer to fill your cups.)
Party Idea– Want to wow your guests?! Make a Dubai chocolate strawberry bar! Use a chocolate fondue machine, to have warm melted chocolate. Next to the chocolate, have a bowl of quartered strawberries, a bowl of pistachio filling, crushed pistachios, and cute cups. Then everyone can assemble their own chocolate Dubai strawberry cup! This is a great idea for a girl’s night in, bridal shower, baby shower, engagement or any other party!

MELTING CHOCOLATE

There are several different methods that you can use to melt the chocolate; you just want to be sure not to over scorch and burn the chocolate! Here are some methods you can use:

Microwave Method-

  1. Add the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat it in 15-second intervals at a low power setting. (Use the melting option if your microwave has it.)
  2. Stir about every 3-4 seconds, to prevent the chocolate from burning.
  3. Continue until the chocolate is fully melted. Do not overheat, as this can cause the chocolate to burn and become hard.

Stovetop Method-

  1. Fill a saucepan or pot with about 1-2 inches of water and bring it to a light simmer. (Not a boil.)
  2. Place a heatproof bowl (glass or metal) on top of the pot, making sure the bottom doesn’t touch the water.
  3. Add your choice of chopped chocolate to the bowl and gently stir as the bowl begins to warm up, the chocolate will melt. Stir constantly until all the chocolate is gully melted.
  4. Carefully remove from heat.

Boiling Water-

  1. Add the bag of chocolate or chocolate bar, still in the wrapper, into a casserole dish.
  2. Pour boiling water over it and let it sit for a couple minutes to allow it to melt.
  3. Using tongs, remove the bag of chocolate from the water when fully melted. (You can just use the bag as a piping bag and cut the corner open and when assembling the cups, just pipe the chocolate out like that. This makes it easier and less of a mess!)

QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE:

What if I can’t find Kataifi?

No worries, you can also use shredded wheat cereal for your crunch, it has almost the same results.

How many dessert cups does this recipe make?

This recipe makes about 4-5 dessert cups, depending on how full you make the cups.

Can I make these cups ahead of time?

Yes! You can prep the pistachio mixture ahead of time, up to 1-2 days, just store in the fridge. When ready to enjoy, just assemble and serve!

How do I store leftover dessert cups?

For the best results, you want to enjoy this dessert immediately. But if you have leftovers, store them in the fridge for up to 2 days. The strawberries will soften, and chocolate will harden but will still be enjoyable. I do not recommend keeping the leftovers over r2 days, since the strawberries will get soggy and mushy.

Can I use a different fruit?

Yes, swap it out for raspberries or do a mix of raspberries and strawberries!

Cook Time 5 minutes
Total Time 20 minutes
Servings 5 dessert cups

Ingredients

  • 1 lb fresh strawberries quartered
  • 8 oz chocolate chips milk, dark or semi-sweet
  • crushed pistachios for topping

Crunchy Pistachio Cream-

  • 2 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • 4 oz chopped kataifi
  • 1 1/4 cup pistachio cream or butter
  • 1 ½ Tbsp tahini

Instructions

  • Rinse and thoroughly dry the strawberries, then slice or quarter them as desired.

Prepare Crunchy Pistachio Mixture-

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, add the chopped kataifi to the skillet.
  • Toast the kataifi, stirring continuously, until it turns a light golden brown. (It’s important to stir constantly to ensure even browning and prevent burning.)
  • Remove the skillet from the heat and pour in the pistachio cream and tahini. Stir until fully combined. Set the mixture aside.

Melt Chocolate- Use your go-to chocolate melting method.

  • Place the bag of chocolate or sealed chocolate bar into a casserole dish. (You only want to use this method on sealed chocolate.)
  • Pour boiling water over it and let it sit for a few minutes to allow the chocolate to melt.
  • Once melted, use tongs to carefully remove the bag from the water. (You can use the melted chocolate bag as a piping bag—just snip off a corner and pipe the chocolate directly when assembling the cups. This method is easier and less messy!)

Assemble Dubai Chocolate Strawberry Cups-

  • Lay out four cups and divide half of the strawberries evenly among them to create the first layer.
  • Drizzle or pipe melted chocolate over the strawberries, then spoon on some of the crunchy pistachio cream mixture.
  • Repeat the layers with the remaining strawberries, more chocolate, and another layer of pistachio cream.
  • Finish each cup with a sprinkle of crushed pistachios and garnish with a strawberry slice or a drizzle of chocolate. (This recipe makes approximately 4–5 cups, depending on how full you prefer them.)
