Looking for an easy yet elegant holiday appetizer? These baked brie bites with prosciutto and fig jam are it! Flakey golden puff pastries filled with melty brie cheese, crispy prosciutto and a touch of sweet fig jam. Every bite gives you the ultimate combination of flavors. This appetizer is perfect for holidays, parties, snacks, or anytime you need an appetizer quick!

WHAT YOU NEED-

  • Puff Pastry– You can use either puff pastry, crescent dough or phyllo dough for this appetizer! I love working with puff pastry, so that is always my first choice.
  • Brie Cheese– The main ingredient in this recipe is the brie cheese! Either a round brie cheese wheel or brie snacks will work, just be sure to have enough for all the bites.
  • Fig Jam– For the best results, you want to use fig jam! It flows so well with the brie cheese and the savory prosciutto! Either fig jam or fig preservatives will work.
  • Prosciutto– You want to use good quality prosciutto! You can find it at any deli; I always get mine at Aldi or Walmart! The prosciutto is cooked and chopped, giving you savory prosciutto bites.
  • Hot Honey– To elevate this dish, you want to finish the bites off with drizzled hot honey! You can use either homemade or store-bought hot honey. If you don’t like spicy food, you can skip the hot honey.
  • Herbs– I love garnishing these brie bites with some fresh thyme or rosemary for looks and extra taste! This is optional but so delicious.

HOW TO MAKE BRIE PUFF PASTRY BITES

With just a few simple steps you can have these delicious mini brie bites ready in no time!

  1. Thaw the puff pastry sheets fully before making these brie bites! (Take out about 30-45 minutes before.)
  2. Preheat the oven and spray the muffin tins with baking spray.
  3. Unwrap the brie cheese wheel and trim off some of the rind from the edges, top and bottom. Cut the wheel into 24 even sized pieces.
  4. Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet into about a 12×10 rectangle.
  5. With a knife or pizza cutter, cut the sheet into 12 equal sized squares. Repeat with the other sheet, you will have a total of 24 squares.
  6. Transfer the pastry triangles into the muffin tin to form cups.
  7. Add a cube of brie, a spoonful of fig jam, and a pinch of crispy prosciutto to each pastry cup. (Divide everything evenly among all the pastry cups.)
  8. Bake until the puff pastry is golden and cheese is melted. Remove from the oven and cool for a couple minutes.
  9. Gently remove the brie bites from the tin and place them on a serving platter.
  10. Drizzle the bites with hot honey and finish with fresh herbs.
  11. Enjoy immediately while the cheese is still melting and warm.

HOW TO GET CRISPY PROSCUITTO BITS

What makes this easy appetizer so delicious is the crispy prosciutto bits! They are so easy to make, it’s just like bacon but faster and less greasy mess!

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium high heat.
  2. Add the prosciutto slices to the skillet and cook for about 1-2 minutes per side, until both sides are crispy dark red.
  3. Remove the crispy prosciutto from the skillet and chop into bits. (You can prepare the crispy prosciutto bits ahead of time 2-3 days.)

BRIE BITE VARIATIONS

Have fun with what you combine with the brie cheese in this appetizer!

  • Cranberry Brie Bites– Another classic for the holidays is cranberry Brie Bites! Add a slice of brie cheese, cranberry sauce, and chopped nuts for a creamy, sweet, and tart appetizer. Use either homemade or canned cranberry sauce!
  • Jam Brie Bites– Keep this appetizer simple and just do a slice of Brie cheese and your choice of jam! Use raspberry, apricot, berry, or any other jam or preservative you prefer.
  • Pepper Jelly Brie Bites– Make this a sweet and spicy appetizer and use a pepper jelly jam. Spicy jam goes perfect with melted Brie cheese!
  • Savory Brie Bites– Skip the jam and use a chutney or pesto to go along with your Brie cheese.
  • Bacon Onion Brie Bites– Make this all around savory appetizer and add brie cheese, caramelized onions and bacon bits!
Bake a Variety– You can bake a variety of different flavors; you don’t have to limit these brie bites to just one flavor!

QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE:

Can I use just one sheet of puff pastry to make only 12 brie bites?

Yes! If you don’t have to make such a large portion of brie bites, just take out one puff pastry sheet to thaw and make only 12.

What size muffin tin do I use?

I just use a regular muffin pan for this recipe. You can use either 2, 12 tin muffins pan or 2, 6 tin muffins pan and do it in 2 batches!

Can I prepare this appetizer ahead of time?

Yes! Once the brie bites are assembled, wrap the muffin tins in plastic wrap and store in the fridge for up to 1-2 days. When ready to bake continue with baking instructions.

Why are my pastry bites sticking to my muffin tin?

To avoid this issue, be sure not to skip spraying the tins with baking spray. Also allow the puff pastries to cool 2-3 minutes before removing them from the liners.

Do I have to use crispy prosciutto?

I highly recommend that you use crispy prosciutto in this appetizer, it goes so well with the Brie cheese and fig jam! But you can also swap for bacon or just leave it out.

How do I store leftover brie bites?

Once the brie bites are cooled, store in an airtight container or bag in the fridge for 2-3 days.

How do I reheat brie bites?

Reheat the brie bites in the air fryer, microwave, or oven!
