There are so many different chocolate chip cookie recipes, but this one is the best! The cookie dough is so easy to make, and the cookies come out so chewy, soft and gooey. These are great to make for any occasion and great to make ahead and freeze!

WHAT YOU NEED-

  • Flour– Be sure to use good quality all purpose flour! We use Bob’s Red Mill organic all-purpose flour.
  • Baking Soda & Powder– To help the cookies rise and become fluffy, the recipe calls for baking soda and baking powder.
  • Salt– Adding salt to the cookie batter doesn’t make it salty but brings out the sweet flavors even more!
  • Butter– Be sure to use unsalted butter that is melted and then cooled! You do NOT want to use hot melted butter. Melt the butter and let sit while preparing the rest of the ingredients.
  • Sugar– You want to use both granulated sugar and brown sugar for these cookies. Either light or dark brown sugar can be used, this recipe uses light brown sugar.
  • Eggs– Fresh large eggs is what helps bind the batter together.
  • Vanilla– Use vanilla extract for this cookie dough recipe!
  • Chocolate– For the chocolate, you can use either milk chocolate chips, semi-sweet, dark chocolate, mini morsels, or regular morsels. You can also use chocolate chunks or chop up a chocolate bar!

HOW TO MAKE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

This recipe comes together so effortlessly! These are so fun to make with the kiddos or during date night!

  1. Sift together the dry ingredients into a bowl.
  2. In another bowl, mix the cooled melted butter, sugar, vanilla, and eggs.
  3. Once combined, add in the dry ingredients and mix to combine.
  4. Add in the chocolate chip morsels and combine. Cover the batter and chill.
Do I really need to chill my dough? Yes! The reason you chill your cookie batter is so that all the fats solidify and when baking the cookies don’t spread too fast and become cookie puddles.

Once the cookie batter is made there are several things you can do, you can shape the cookies and then chill or freeze. You can also store the dough without shaping it!

  • Fridge– You can store either right after you make the cookie dough or shape the cookies and then chill. Cover the cookie dough and allow it to chill in the fridge for at least 2 hours and up to 3-4 days!
  • Freezer– Shape the cookies and place on parchment paper and freeze for about 15-20 minutes. Transfer the cookie dough balls into a freezer safe bag or container and freeze for up to 3 months!
After Chilling Tip– After the cookie batter has chilled, the dough will be hard so if you didn’t divide the cookies beforehand then allow to sit at room temperature for 10 minutes or so, so that it is easier to work with!

BAKING HOMEMADE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

The key to achieving the perfect batch of chocolate chip cookies is the cooking time! Do NOT be fooled by the cookies looking undercooked, they continue cooking even after you remove them from the oven.

  1. Preheat the oven and line the baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. If you didn’t shape the cookies before chilling, shape. Using a scooper, take about 2 tablespoons of the chilled cookie dough and form cook dough balls.
  3. Lay out the cookie balls onto the line baking sheets 1-2 inches apart from each other, do not overcrowd.
  4. Bake until slightly turning golden and remove. Allow you to rest for about 5-10 minutes.
  5. Serve warm or cooled.

The cooking time may be a little different when you are cooking frozen cookie dough! You can take them out of the freezer and bake right away or allow them to thaw then bake.

  1. Preheat the oven and prepare the baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Add the frozen cookie dough balls onto the baking sheet, spacing out about 1-2 inches apart.
  3. Bake until slightly golden and remove from the oven. Allow to rest for about 5-10 minutes and then serve.
Baking Thawed Cookies– If you are thawing the cookies, then just follow the usual instructions for baking the batch of cookies.

STORING BAKED COOKIES

  • Fridge– Once the cookies are cool, add them into an airtight container or plastic bag and store in the fridge for up to 1-2 weeks.
  • Freezer– Once the cookies are cool, place the baked cookies into a freezer safe bag and freeze for up to 3-4 months! When ready to enjoy, just pop out how much you want and allow to thaw for 20-30 minutes at room temp and enjoy!
