Simple Beef Lo Mein recipe that will have you skipping takeout! Juicy beef chunks combined with lo mein noodles and veggies mixed in a yummy stir fry sauce. This Asian-inspired dinner is going to become a go-to dinner.
BEEF LO MEIN
This classic lo mein dish is going to wow everyone! The soft and tender lo mein noodles combined with the veggies and meat, go together so well in the lo mein sauce. In under 30 minutes you can have this dish ready. It is faster and cheaper than ordering this dish from takeout!
WHAT YOU NEED-
- Noodles– You want to use lo mein noodles for the authentic taste, but you can substitute it for linguine, spaghetti pasta or even ramen noodles.
- Beef– Be sure to use a leaner steak for the best results. Steak cuts such as flank steak, round steak, or sirloin work great!
- Carrots– You want to use shredded carrots, we love to use precut shredded carrots, but you can also cut fresh carrots.
- Broccoli– Use equal sized medium broccoli florets. We do not recommend frozen broccoli.
- Bell Peppers– Regular bell peppers or mini bell peppers can be used. You want to have even sized sliced peppers.
- Green Onion– The green onion brings so much flavor to the dish! Finely chopped or large slices can be used.
- Garlic– Freshly minced garlic will result in the best flavors, you can substitute it for garlic powder if need be.
- Sauce– For the sauce we use a simple homemade sauce! The sauce is made up of soy sauce, brown sugar, broth, garlic, and cornstarch. You can also use your go-to store bought stir fry sauce to make this dish even easier!
HOW TO MAKE LO MEIN WITH BEEF
Don’t be intimidated by the step to make this dish, it is truly such an effortless dish! In under 30 minutes you can have this on the table.
- Prepare the sauce and set aside.
- Cook the lo mein pasta per package instructions.
- Slice the steak and season with salt and pepper. Cut up the veggies.
- In a skillet or a wok, sauté the steak until cooked. Remove from skillet and cover to keep warm.
- Add the carrots and bell peppers into the skillet and cook until tender. Add in the broccoli, green onion, and garlic and saute until broccoli is tender.
- Pour the sauce and add the steak into the skillet and bring to a simmer and allow to thicken.
- Once sauce is thick add in the noodles and toss until well combined.
- Top with green onions and sesame seeds.
HOMEMADE STIR FRY SAUCE
This thick and flavorful stir fry sauce is going to become a favorite! With just a couple simple ingredients you can have this sauce ready to use.
- In a bowl, add soy sauce, brown sugar, broth, minced garlic, cornstarch, and sesame seeds and whisk to combine.
- Once the slur is ready, you can either cook it along with your recipes or cook it and then reheat to use.
- COOKING NOW– Once the sauce is mixed, add into a saucepan and bring to a simmer. Continue cooking until the sauce thickens and then remove from heat and allow to cool.
- Once cool, place in a container and store in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Simple Beef Lo Mein
Ingredients
- 8 oz lo mein noodles
- 1 lb steak
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp ground black pepper
- 1 Tbsp oil
- 1 Tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 cup shredded carrots
- ½ bell pepper sliced
- 2 cups medium broccoli florets
- 2 green onion stalks chopped
- 2 garlic cloves minced
Stir fry sauce-
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 3/4 cup broth chicken or beef
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 1 ½ Tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp sesame seeds optional
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, broth, minced garlic, corn starch and sesame seeds until well combined. Set aside.
- Cook the lo Mein noodles according to package instructions. Once cooked drain and add back into the pot and cover to keep warm. Toss with some oil to avoid the noodles from sticking.
- Thinly slice the steak into strands and in a bowl season with salt and pepper.
- Heat your skillet or wok on medium high heat with 1 Tbsp of oil. Once hot, add the steak and cook for about 4-5 minutes, or until crispy. Remove from pan and cover to keep warm.
- Add the shredded carrots and sliced peppers to the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes, or until tender.
- Once tender, add 1 Tbsp butter along with the minced garlic, broccoli florets and green onion and cook until broccoli is tender 2-3 minutes. Season veggies with salt and pepper to taste.
- Add the cooked steak back into the pan and mix. Pour in the stir fry sauce and cook on medium heat allow the sauce to simmer and thicken, cook for about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the cooked noodles in and gently mix until everything is well combined.
- Remove from heat and top with more chopped green onion and sesame seeds and serve immediately.
