PIGS IN A BLANKET RECIPE
Pigs in a blanket are such fun, easy and delicious party appetizers! Golden butter crescent dough wrapped around a juicy sausage smokie. All you need is just 4 simple ingredients to make this fun bite-sized appetizer. Whether you are hosting a party, game night, or holiday gathering this appetizer is a must! Crescent roll pigs in a blanket also make for a delicious snack or lunch idea.
WHAT YOU NEED-
- Dough– The classic way to make pigs in a blanket is with Pillsbury crescent dough! You can also swap for pretzel dough or puff pastry dough!
- Smokies– For this recipe, you want to use classic lit’l smokies. You can either beef or chicken, spicy, or even cheddar flavored ones. You can also swap
- Egg Wash– To get that butter, golden look you want to egg wash the pigs in a blanket. The egg wash is just a whisked egg.
- Topping– Sprinkle the pigs in a blanket with sesame seeds, everything bagel seasoning, poppy seeds or just leave them plain.
HOW TO MAKE PIGS IN A BLANKET
This easy appetizer comes together in no time; it is easy and fun to make!
- Preheat the oven and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Unwrap the crescent dough and separate the precut triangles.
- With a knife or a pizza cutter, cut each dough triangle into 3-4 thinner triangles.
- Take a thin triangle and roll it around a smokie, starting with the thicker side of the triangle.
- Repeat this with all the dough and smokies. (You should get about 30-32 piggies.)
- Place all the pigs in a blanket onto the lined baking sheet, spacing them out.
- With a pastry brush, brush the crescent dough with egg wash.
- Top with everything bagel seasoning, sesame seeds or leave plain. (I like to do a variety.)
- Bake the pigs in a blanket until the dough is golden brown.
- Serve immediately while still warm.

LARGE PIGS IN A BLANKET
If you want to use regular sized hot dogs, you can make regular sized pigs in a blanket instead. You can either make whole sized or even cut the hot dog in half for medium sized pigs in a blanket!
- Preheat the oven and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Unwrap the crescent dough and separate the precut triangles.
- Take a triangle and roll it around a hot dog, starting with the thicker side of the triangle.
- Repeat this with all the dough and hot dogs. (You will get about 8 pigs in a blanket.)

- With a knife or a pizza cutter, cut each dough triangle into 3-4 thinner triangles.
- Place a little smokie at the thickest end of the triangle and then roll the dough around the sausage tightly.
- Repeat this with all the dough and smokies. (You should get about 30-32 piggies.)
- Place all the pigs in a blanket onto the lined baking sheet, leaving some room around each other.
- With a pastry brush, brush the crescent dough with egg wash. Top with everything bagel seasoning, sesame seeds or leave plain. (I like to do a variety.)
