WHAT YOU NEED-

  • Beef– This recipe calls for ground beef, you want to stay around 80-90% lean meat. You can also swap out ground beef for ground chicken or ground turkey!
  • Salsa– When making taco meat, adding salsa enhances the flavors and keeps you from having dry taco meat. You can use your go to jarred salsa (mild or spicy) or make a batch of my homemade Restaurant-style salsa!
  • Taco Seasoning– You can’t have taco dip without the taco flavoring! Use either homemade or store-bought taco seasoning for this dip.
  • Cream Cheese– Either regular or low-fat cream cheese can be used! This helps give you the creaminess in the dip.
  • Sour Cream– Adding sour cream to this dip gives it a slight tang and enhances the creaminess! You can swap the sour cream for plain Greek yogurt for a healthier option.
  • Shredded Cheese– You can use your favorite shredded cheese, either Colby jack, taco blend, or even mozzarella cheese can be used. You can use pre-shredded cheese or freshly shredded block cheese.

  • Add in the 2 tablespoons taco seasoning and salsa and mix to combine and let simmer for 1-2 minutes.
  • In a casserole dish, add softened cream cheese, sour cream, 1 tablespoon taco seasoning, taco meat mixture, and shredded cheese and mix until well combined.

Slow Cooker Method-

  • In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat, breaking it apart. Cook until fully browned, making sure to drain any excess fat.
  • Stir in the taco seasoning and salsa, mixing thoroughly. Allow the mixture to simmer for 1-2 minutes.
  • Transfer the taco meat mixture to your crockpot. Add the softened cream cheese, sour cream, additional taco seasoning and shredded cheese. You do not need to mix everything immediately, as the ingredients will melt and combine as the dip cooks.
  • Cover the crockpot with the lid and set it to cook on low heat for 1.5 to 2 hours. Stir occasionally, ensuring the dip is cooking evenly. You’ll know it’s ready when it becomes bubbly, and everything has melted into a smooth, creamy dip.
  • Once fully melted and heated through, stir a final time to combine the ingredients. Top with your favorite taco toppings and serve.
  • Keep the dip on the “warm” setting in your crockpot to ensure it stays hot while serving.
